Seedcorn team make new addition
Heather Roxborough has joined the Finance Yorkshire Seedcorn team as investment manager.
Heather joins the growing team of people responsible for making investments of up to £780k in early stage, knowledge and technology start-up businesses with the best opportunity for rapid growth.
She joins the Seedcorn team after previously working for ITI Life Sciences in Scotland where she was responsible for making multimillion pound investments in commercially driven, research and development programmes for the medical and healthcare sectors.
Heather has also worked with global giant Unilever both in the UK and America in their research and corporate ventures divisions.
She said: “I am really excited about working in the Yorkshire area and look forward to speaking to a variety of businesses about how our investment can help their growth.
“I will be looking to support technology based companies across the region which have significant market potential but need financial support to turn it into a reality. Yorkshire has a strong reputation for healthcare companies and with my experience in bio-science and high-end medical technology, I will be in a good position to identify the opportunities available.”
Finance Yorkshire’s Seedcorn team is headed up by Ed French and supported by Michael Bakewell and Ashwin Kumaraswamy. The Seedcorn team is targeted to enable around 15 potential beacon companies to emerge.
In addition to investment, investee companies will receive intensive support from their allocated investment manager who will attend most board meetings and provide help and support on strategy, planning, recruitment, IP, fundraising and exit.
Helping a range of small and medium sized businesses to meet their funding requirements for growth and development, Finance Yorkshire provides seedcorn, loan and equity linked investments, ranging from £15,000 to £2m.
The project is supported financially by the European Union. It has attracted £30million investment from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of Europe’s support for the region’s economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme, £15million from Yorkshire Forward’s Single Programme, and £45million match funding from the European Investment Bank.
